Did you like Part 1?

Hey Guys! Did you like part 1? Well just wait for part 2, COMING SOON!! I hope you guys like it!

Sapphire in the Sand Part I

Okay guys. Here is the first part of Sapphire in the Sand. Just so you know, if there is five stars, that starts the time when it is from Kulu's piont of view. If there is three stars that starts Kania's point of view. Kania (pronounced Kuh-knee-uh) is a girl and Kulu (pronounced Koo-loo) is a boy. Well I hope you guys like part one!

I awoke with a start today. KANIA! WAKE UP! KANIA! WAKE UP! My alarm buzzed at me. I turned it off. Today was the first day of summer. I hurriedly got my swimsuit on and rushed out the door to the largest beach in Hawai’i, Keli’i Beach as it was called. I was so glad my family and I lived on Keli’i. That way I always got the best spot, especially since I always left at six o’clock in the morning. When I settled in my spot near where the tide ended, I started my hunt for shells to add to my collection. While I was collecting something caught my eye. About ten feet away from me was a sort of blue glimmer. At first I thought it was a piece of glass reflecting the ocean.
“I should pick it up before someone steps on it,” I said. But as I neared the “glass”, I found out it wasn’t glass at all! It turned out to be a stone of sorts. The more I thought about the odd blue stone, the more it intrigued me and the more I wanted to find out what the stone was or where it came from. I only knew one person that could answer my questions.
“KIKI!” I said aloud, surprised at my own enthusiasm as people started to stare at me. You see, Kiki is a little different, well make that a lot different, than most normal people. For fun, she likes to look at rocks and gems and stuff. That’s why, if I find some odd things that aren’t seashells but are definitely rocks of some sort, I take them to Kiki for her to classify. So,I took out my phone and texted Kiki.
FOUND WEIRD STONE ON BEACH. COMING OVER FOR CLASSIFICATION. –KANIA
I started the walk to Kiki’s house. When I got there, the door burst open, Kiki standing in the middle of the doorway, showering me with questions.
“Where is it? Where did you find it? What color is it? Are…” Kiki said before I interrupted the infinite words and phrases coming from my friend’s mouth.
“I’ll tell you what happened inside. Will you let me in???” I said impatiently.
“Oh yeah. Sure come on in. Sorry about that. My mouth just started talking on its own,” She said, failing to hold back a giggle. We giggled for a little while then pressed on to more serious matters.
“O.K,” Kiki said, “Where’s the stone?”
“Oh, I have it right here,” I said pulling the stone out of my bag, but I noticed something about it that I hadn’t noticed before. Instead of the solid, ocean blue color, inside the stone were different shades of blue swirling like a vortex. “Whoa! The stone it’s never done this before!”
“Never done what?” Kiki asked curious to know what was happening inside the color pulsing stone. As I showed her the stone, the vortex slowed and then stopped. “Wow, why did the colors swirl like that?”
“I don’t know but that was seriously weird.” I said as Kiki took the stone from my hand. Kiki examined the stone closely as I stood near her desk, fidgeting with my hair.
“Well, it is definitely a Sapphire,” She said matter-o-factly. I looked at her with a look of confusion on my face. “A Sapphire is a sort of blue gem though it has never been known to have different shades of blue pulse inside.” She said, this time with a bit of confusion in her voice. Now she stared at me as if I had done something wrong. “Where exactly did you find this stone?” She said as she started to pack up her techy thingies. When she finished packing, I led her to the spot where I had found the stone. Then she pulled out something that looked like a laptop but wasn’t really. Kiki looked at me with a worried look.
“Kania, this stone… Scientists have found that some types of gems, such as Sapphires, Rubies, and Emeralds, have been coming from an unknown source. Some believe that these stones come from another world connected to ours and whoever possesses one of these stones is able to travel through each world as they please.” As she explained more about the myths of the gemstones coming from the anonymous source, a worried look came across my face also. “Well,” Kiki concluded, “those are just myths. I mean, who knows if they’re real or not.” She said, trying to comfort me. It helped a little. JUST a little.
“Yeah, I guess you’re right. No one knows for sure if the myths are real or not,” My stomach started to churn at the alternative, “That’s why they’re called myths, right?”
Kiki gave me a somewhat reassuring smile. “Right.” She said.
Hey,I thought. I might as well enjoy the rest of the summer. But wait, I don’t have a place to safely keep the Sapphire. Hmmm…
“KULU!” I said, again surprised at my enthusiasm. Kulu is one of my best friends. He’s also different than most boys. He plays sports such as football and beach volleyball, but he works at a jewelry shop. I’m glad I’m his friend because when I want to buy jewelry or something, Kulu can hook me up with the best deals.
“Kulu what?” Kiki asked interrupting my thoughts.
“Oh, I was just thinking, if I take this to Kulu, He’ll make it into a necklace for me, since I don’t have a place to put the gem.”
“Hey, that’s a good idea. Let’s go.” With that we were off to Hawaiian Treasures
Ring- aling the door sounded as we entered the shop.
“Kania, Kiki! What’s up guys!?”  Kulu exclaimed, “What can I do for you?”
“Kulu,” I started, “I found this Sapphire on the beach a little while ago and…uh…” I said, unsure of how to approach Kulu about the whole stone myth, though, Kiki ended up explaining that.
“So we need you to make a necklace for me to hold my stone in.” I said as I handed Kulu the stone.
“Which chain?” Kulu asked, referring to if I wanted a gold or silver chain.
            “The usual,” I answered
“Silver it is then. This’ll only take like ten minutes. Do you want to wait here or come back later?” Kulu asked. Kiki and I must have had the same expression on each other’s face or something because Kulu couldn’t help but smile REALLY BIG.
“I’ll take that you’re both staying here then?” Kulu said, though it was more of a statement and less of a question. There was an awkward pause and for some reason we all burst out laughing.
“O.K…” I said wiping a tear from my eye and putting a serious look on my face, “Time to get serious.”  With that Kulu got to work and we talked with him as he did so. In no time, my necklace was done. I reached in my bag for the money when Kulu grabbed my hand.
“You don’t need to pay me.” He said. I tried to speak but he started before I could. “Consider it an early birthday present.” He smiled.
He still hasn’t let go of my hand. I thought. We stared at each other for a long time. Well, sort of. It was really like 30-40 seconds but it seemed like an eternity until Kiki broke our moment.
“Okay… Well, thanks Kulu but if you’ll excuse us, we’ll be going now.” Kiki said. I looked back to wave to him and he smiled. When we were out of the store Kiki said, “Soo… What’s going on between you and Kulu, hmm?”
“Well we’re not together or anything. But…” I said dreamily, that is until I saw my smoothie stand. “Oh man! Sorry, Kiki, I gotta bolt.” I said running off. I had completely forgotten about my Hawaiian famous smoothies. I ran to my stand and started filling peoples’ orders. Finally the line came to an end and I had time to plan my party. It was going to be a small party; just me, Kulu, and, Kiki hanging out together. We could go swimming, or rock-climbing, maybe. DING! DING! DING! The service bell rang. A small boy, about ten years old, popped up at the counter.
“Hello. How can I help you?” I asked halfheartedly.
“How can you NOT recognize me?”
“Kirk? Kirk! Hey dude. How’s it goin’?”
“I’m good. Kan, You’ve babysat me for almost a year now…”
“I know. You’ve just grown that’s all. Hey, you want to help me?”
“Yeah. Actually, my mom… oh wait, here she comes now.” Kirk said looking over his shoulder as his mom approached the counter.
“Kirk, what’s taking so long?” Mrs. Shorse asked.
“Actually, Mrs. Shorse, Kirk was just telling me about you.”
“Oh yes. I was just coming up to ask you, and I know you’re running the stand and everything, but could you sit Kirk for a little while because I need to run errands and he wants to stay at the beach and…”
“Don’t worry Mrs. Shorse, I‘ll be fine. Kirk here can help run the stand with me. So you can go do your errands.”
“Thank you so much.” With that, Mrs. Shorse was off.
“Well, Kirk, I know how much you like to run the stand and since today is the first day of summer, business won’t be slow. So you know the basics of running my stand, right?”
“Yep.” Kirk said enthusiastically.
“Okay  Look! Here comes another group of customers. Ready?”
“Ready, but will you make the smoothies?” Kirk asked, somewhat nervous.
“Absolutely.” I said
“Hello. How may I help you?” Kirk asked.
“Um… I’ll have a small Mango Blast, please,” a man about 22 said.
“Okay. Is that all?” Kirk asked.
“Yep,” the man replied.
“ONE SMALL MANGO BLAST!” Kirk yelled back to me. “Your total comes to $3.97. Have a great day.” Kirk said as the man handed him the money with a smile on his face. After a few more groups of customers came and went Kirk and I finally got to just sit down and chill.
“Well, Kirk, you have done a very fine job today and I think you deserved around… mmm… $13.46. Have a nice day.” I said handing Kirk his money.
“Thanks Kania. Oh and that reminds me. Happy birthday!” Kirk said as he gave me a new sticker for my surf board. It was a conch shell that had the brand Surf DLite. That is an amazing brand. I buy ALL of my surfing stuff there.
“Thanks, Kirk. This is so cool. I’ll put it on my board right away.” I gave Kirk a big hug. Kirk left later and I was alone for a few hours. It was around 6:00 p.m. and I was about to close up when I heard footsteps.
*****
Man! 6:01! I hope she’s still there! Please, Kania! Please still be there! I thought. Lights! She’s still there! Perfect. I started to slow so she wouldn’t think I ran all the way here.
“Kania! I was hoping to find you here,” I said as smoothly as possible.
“Oh! Hey Kulu!” She said. She was blushing so bad. But I had a problem. I didn’t know how to ask a girl out but I tried my best.
“Um… Kania, would you like to go surfing? Tonight?” I asked her nervously.
“Sure! I’ll be right out.” She said. After she closed up and got her board, we got in the water. We surfed a few waves. I showed off a little bit. Then we just settled down and watched the sunset from the water.
“Wow.” Kania said breathlessly. “The colors are beautiful”
“Definitely.” I said. I reached over and brushed some wet hair out of her eyes. After a few more moments watching the sunset, Kania’s board flipped and she fell into the water. I laughed and reached in to grab her rope that connected to her ankle from her board. When I pulled it out Kania wasn’t on it. “Kania? Where are you?” I called. No answer. I called Kiki on her cell to come over here. In the mean time I was searching for Kania. She couldn’t have gone that far. I thought. When Kiki got here, she joined me in searching.
“Kulu! Come here!” Kiki yelled. When I got there, I saw light coming from under the water. There was a shadowy figure. It took me awhile to figure out what it was. There floating lifelessly under the water, wrapped in light, was Kania. I started to panic.
“KANIA!” I screamed. I dove into the water.
